Mask of Love
By Suzanna Kennedy
You cannot gaze upon me, beloved
For then you would know that
I am here at long last
You have grown used to the longing
The dreaming, the fantasizing about
The someday lover who will satisfy all your desires
To see me in all my glory
Would remind you of
Your own magnificence
Your own Divinity
To unmask me
Would be to unmask yourself
To let your own light
Shine brightly
Without shadow or filter
So I will wear the mask of love
And dance for you
You will feel safe enough to
Dance with me
And when we fall to the floor
In joyful exhaustion
The clock will strike midnight
The masks will dissolve
And we will merge together
In Sacred Union
